Vecchio

  • Rank: Private First Class
  • Occupational Specialty: Unidentified
  • Unit: 4th Ranger Battalion?

A Ranger that served with Miller and Horvath at Anzio in Italy, the diminutive Vecchio was known for walking around on his hands while singing a song about a man on a flying trapeze, and for urinating a "V" on fellow soldiers jackets to mark his initial, and as a symbol for victory. Vecchio's hand walking had apparently begun after he was shot in one of his feet.

Notes

Just as with Miller and Horvath, it can be assumed that Vecchio was a member of the 4th Ranger Battalion at Anzio. The 1st and 3rd Ranger Battalions were virtually destroyed in January of 1944, and the 2nd Ranger Battalion was training in the United Kingdom. Based on Miller's comments, Vecchio was likely killed in Italy.
