This sailor (Corey Johnson) of the 7th Naval Beach Battalion was able to reach the relative safety of Omaha Beach's seawall and set up his SCR-300 radio in order to facilitate communication between the ships at sea and the soldiers on the beach. Shortly after he was joined by men of the 2nd Ranger Battalion and the 29th Infantry Division, the sailor was killed by a blast that tore off his face and destroyed his radio equipment. This character was unnamed in both the credits and the Saving Private Ryan novelization. |
