Mandelsohn's (Ryan Hurst) unit missed its drop zone by 20 miles and instead landed near an unidentified location ("Bumville"). In route to their rally point, Mandelsohn's group encountered a colonel who was gathering men to help defend a bridge along the Merderet River at Ramelle. Among those that joined this group was Private James Ryan, a friend of Mandelsohn's. Later, after the hearing in his right ear was damaged by the explosion of a German grenade, Mandelsohn would relay information on Private Ryan's whereabouts to Captain Miller of the 2nd Ranger Battalion. In the original Saving Private Ryan DVD this character is credited as "Michaelson" in both the end credits and the subtitles, even though the name spoken in the film is Mandelsohn. For the D-Day 60th Anniversary Commemorative Edition, the subtitles have been corrected to reflect the character's spoken name, although the end credits still list him as Michaelson. |
