Spreng Mine 44

Employing a coiled spring to launch the mine three to five feet in the air, the Spreng Mine pattern 44 was an anti-personnel mine capable of inflicting damage up to a range of 110 yards. This mine was also known as the Springemine or S-mine, and by its nickname "Bouncing Betty."

The Spreng Mine 44 was one of a number of mines encountered by Captain Miller and his Rangers in the days immediately following D-Day.
